Help Bring an Important Story Into the World
There are moments in life when a dream becomes something bigger than yourself.
For me, Becoming Her – The Making of Four Nigerian Girls is one of those moments.
After years of writing, revising, reflecting, and pouring my heart into every page, I am excited to share that my debut novel is approaching publication.
But before it reaches the world, I am inviting a small group of readers to become part of something special: the Becoming Her Founding Readers Circle.
Why I Wrote Becoming Her
People often ask why I decided to write a novel.
The answer is simple.
I wanted to preserve stories.
I wanted to preserve culture.
I wanted to create a space where conversations about womanhood, identity, friendship, resilience, and heritage could flourish.
Growing up in Benue State, Nigeria, I was surrounded by rich traditions, strong women, vibrant communities, and stories that shaped how I understood the world.
Yet I rarely saw people like us represented in books.
I rarely saw the stories of the Idoma and Tiv people celebrated in mainstream literature.
I wanted to change that.
Becoming Her is my love letter to home.
It is a celebration of African womanhood.
It is a tribute to the mothers, grandmothers, teachers, mentors, and communities that shape us.
Most importantly, it is a reminder that our stories matter.
Because stories preserve what memory cannot.
What Is Becoming Her About?
Becoming Her is a coming-of-age novel that follows four Nigerian girls as they navigate friendship, family expectations, identity, love, heartbreak, ambition, and the journey into womanhood.
Inspired by the spirit of Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko, and the community that helped shape generations of young women, the story explores the challenges and triumphs that define who we become.
At its heart, this is a story about resilience.
Not survival.
Not victimhood.
But resilience.
It is about women who refuse to allow their circumstances to define their future.
Why I’m Looking for Founding Readers
Before a book is published, authors often rely on advance readers to help shape the book’s launch and introduce it to future readers.
I am looking for 20–30 people who would like to become part of the Becoming Her Founding Readers Circle.
